- HAND-CRAFTED IN MALI, WEST AFRICA – The Paragon Heartwood Mali Pro Bugarabu is a a professional-grade instrument built to our high standard for sound quality and craftsmanship by expert cultural artisans supported by non-profit Africa Heartwood Project in Mali, West Africa. It measures 13x24, a standard size instrument suitable for most women or men who want an authentic African Bugarabu drum with exceptional sound.
- RICH BASS AND VERSATILE SOUND – The sound produced is like a mix between djembe and conga: The shape of the shell produces a strong bass response, while the tight cow skin make the conga-like open tones and thick slaps. This instrument may be played with either djembe or conga technique.
- PREMIUM MATERIALS AND CONSTRUCTION – Our Mali Bugarabus are crafted by expert carvers using specialty hardwoods, finished with top-rate skin and rope, and feature a standard 2 top ring tuning system. Shells are selected from Hare, Lenke, Dugura, and Acajou, healthy and well seasoned and treated inside and out with lots of shea butter and coconut oil. It includes medium-thick Mali cow skin with hair left on for that warm, full Bugarabu sound.
- CUSTOM FITTED RINGS AND TUNING SYSTEM – The drum features 5mm mixed red/yellow/green drum rope for 22-24 vertical ropes, a 4mm black rope for top and bottom loops, and a double hitch loop pattern. Black cloth wraps the rings to prevent rust, and extra tuning rope is included for storage. Custom-fitted 1/4" rings maintain even tension, while the traditional 2 top ring system allows for easier re-head and display.
- SUPPORTING COMMUNITY AND TRADITION – Our musical instruments are unique. All products of Africa HeartWood Project are hand-crafted in Africa by village cultural artisans. Each purchase contributes directly to Africa Heartwood Project, supporting the livelihoods of communities in Africa. This non-profit, run by passionate volunteers, fights poverty and promotes community development in West Africa. Your choice makes a difference, blending the joy of music with social impact.
